Review: “D” EP by The Acacia Strain

The paint may not have yet dried since The Acacia Strain vocalist Vincent Bennett stripped it with his savage vocals on the bands late December 2019 released record “It Comes In Waves” but the Deathcore heavyweights are already back in action with a brand new double a-side single that they’re calling “D“. It’s going to get a 7” vinyl pressing via Rise Records and is tagged as the first of many…

…”Feed A Pigeon, Breed A Rat” has a far more straight up feel than “It Comes In Waves” does with an instantly gratifying set of mid temp Deathcore riffs and Kevin Boutot having a huge clean and crisp drum sound throughout. Having a tension building introduction and a couple of pauses in the track builds the menacing aspect nicely and Bennett’s gargantuan roar is very much on point. Lyrically he spits venom on the weaker members of humanity who would have fallen away before breeding season in centuries gone by or if we had a predator preying upon our species. “Seeing God” will no doubt get more attention in the immediate aftermath of the surprise release of this single as it features a guest vocal appearance from Aaron Herd of Jesus Piece. The Acacia Strain take to Metallic Hardcore leanings of tracks like “Whoa! Shut It Down” for this sub three minute affair with Bennett’s vocals being the heaviest aspect as it races through with a high energy fury. To that end, it could be a Jesus Piece track and with Bennett speaking of his love of the band and wanting to get Herd on a track for a while in the media on release day it’s a fun place to play [7.5/10]
