Review: “Rinse and Repeat” by Tide7 (1st Anniversary)

Citing a wide range of influences from spanning Metalcore, Deathcore, Hardcore, DJent and Mathcore, Tide7 hail from Cork in Ireland and promise an aggressive sound that fuses intense lyrics with chaotic dissonance, groove laden riffs and of course huge breakdowns. The band got together in late 2022 with guitarist Luke Nirever recording and producing their debut EP in house. He’s joined by vocalist Mark Mulcahy, bassist  Aaron Kennedy and drummer Jack Piasentini, the four piece utilizing the skills of Nicolò Paracchini (Morcolac, Ticinum, Black Raptus) to mix and master the aforementioned record. Since then they’ve earned something of a reputation for a fierce, high energy live show, so it’s time we are went back to the start to see what it’s all about…

Given that “Rince and Repeat” is a debut record you might expect some rough and ready tunes that are a bit on the raw side but where this one is concerned there is none of that. Instead you the Nu-Metalcore swagger of bands like Alpha Wolf in opening cut “Suffer In Silence” with accomplished song writing and an introspective lyrical narrative. Both mosh and two step parts are plentiful in supply and you can imagine the band being able to squeeze a little more out of this one live. Equally introspective “Hang From A Rope” churns and burns with the knashing of teeth, the four piece handling tempo shifts with consummate ease. They even offer up an ambient bridge that acts as a moment of calm before the final verse, landing the killer blow with style and substance. Glitchy riffs in the vein of Australian’s Diamond Construct run through two step inciting “Vermin“, a blistering track with some seriously caustic vocals. There are points at which Mulcahy threatens to reach into the void and produce some Slam inspired moments but while that doesn’t quite come to fruition he does get nasty towards the tail end. This record is surprising because it’s polished, refined and trigger happy. If you heard they were on a label like Greyscale Records you wouldn’t even blink [8.5/10]
