Throwback: “Redemption” by Shadows Fall!
Streaming services may have 99% of Metal musicians back catalogues these days but there is always the odd one that isn’t present; such are the legalities of who owns a particular recording and record companies having a certain veto. One such record is “Threads of Life” by Shadows Fall, which saw the Springfield Massachusetts record with Nick Raskulinecz (Trivium, Deftones, Mastodon) at Dave Grohl’s (Nirvana, Foo Fighters) Studio 606 in Northridge, Los Angeles, California in 2007. Chris “Zeuss” Harris mixed having previously done their 2000 “Of One Blood” and 2002 “The Art of Balance” albums respectively and we would suggest the issue comes from the record being split between Atlantic Records and Roadrunner Records as they handled different regions. While the album itself received a mixed reception among critics, we’re yet to come across a fan who didn’t like it and in December 2007 single “Redemption” received a Grammy Award nomination. So it can’t be all bad, right? Vocalist Brain Fair commented at the time “The song is a celebration of the power of music and the human voice as an agent of change and to have it recognized in such a way is incredible“.
