Review: “Inhumanity Enthroned” by Morrath (3rd Anniversary)

Back in 2021 a rising force in the Polish Thrash scene called Prowler decided to call time on their career citing the need to put their hand to Death Grind, something that they had secretly craved for years. Rebranding as Morrath the rhythm section of bassist Mieszko Jankowski and drummer Miłosz Maik, vocalist Mateusz “Ucho” Hertmanowski and six string merchants of Death Bartek “Maślak” Maśląkowski and Szymon Wyrwiński were inspired by the American scene of the early 90’s. Some call it brain washing but thematically the band deal with inner struggles and anti-religious rhetoric, crushing the weak and thinning the herd…

The trail of the dead begins with “Beyond Perception of Human Soul“, a cut reminiscent of “Morbid Visions” era Sepultura with Mateusz Hertmanowski gargling blood during the fleeting Slam vocal moments. Clank-y bass from Mieszko Jankowski lurking like a serial killer preparing to strike as it bursts out from gaps in the chugging riffs, the sinister and menacing edge done to perfection. “Army Of Unnamed” swirls with dark and brooding intent, waiting for the moment to attack. What the quality of the recording lacks in production and quality of microphones the band make up for in incendiary energy, doing everything with vim and vigour as they keep the punches coming thick and fast. There is also a certain nostalgic charm to this that harks back to the days of tape trading in the 80’s which the band have nailed while a couple of ripping solos hits like a frying pan to the skull while the band confirm that they can keep us captivated on the longer cuts they have in store. An ode to death and destruction that finds Hertmanowski’s throat grating vocals sounds like nails on a chalk board, “Spiral of Pain (Enshrined in Sufferance)” is the most punishing of this trio of cuts. Duelling extended solos feel like lightening bolts to the eye sockets as they elevate it, a little too high in the mix but well worked against the backdrop of the death march the band have created [7/10]
