Review: “God’s Waiting Room” by Whole World Wept

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania born and raised, playing dirty philly mosh metal is how Whole World Wept spend most of their dayz. The four piece first appeared on the scene in 2025 with EP “Scorcher“, a record which carved out a niche with a heavy hitting blend of Metal and Deathcore produced, mixed and mastered by drummer Kasperi Antilla. Doubling down on the sound while doubling up on the guest appearances EP “Guilt Trails” followed in January 2026, packing the intensity of a furnace along with plenty of samples. Vocalist Lord Distortion has a notable rap career of his own so how they’ve managed to drop another four track effort this year beggars belief.

If you’ve never heard of Whole World Wept and you were expecting some rap-flow you can throw that idea out the window because Lord Distortion brings throat ripping harsh uncleans to the Kings table for “Grief State“, the band issuing Metallic Hardcore grooves, Beatdown Deathcore moves and samples like Mario collecting gold coins. The sense of tension is palpable, the vocal range impressive with a couple of slam inspired parts and the tempo shifts move so swiftly that the opening cut is exactly what the edge of the seat was made for.

Sprinting out of the gate like a prize dungeon whippet “Not My Blood” summons all the electrifying energy the outfit can muster as Lord Distortion rants and raves like a man possessed. The breakdown hits like a building site wrecking ball giving what is already a savage angry anthem and gut punch moment to knock you into next week. “Collateral” then fires up the engines with a razor sharp main riff and some lethal death growls, the Beatdown breakdown mid cut with the unhinged vocals a lethal dose of American hatred. The only issue with this one is that it fades out after 156 seconds with a neck snapping groove that leaves you wanting.

Arguably the fiercest cut on the record is “By The Concrete“, a track designed from the ground up to get two steppers in pit. The rhythmic skull battering on this one is insane as the quartet demonstrate maximum dexterity and leave the knife buried firmly in the butchers block. [7.5/10]
