Review: “Salir del Bucle” by Lude

Known for fusing together Nu-Metal, hip-hop, funk and electronic music, Spanish outfit Lude were formed a decade ago, their debut album “Huele a soberbia en espíritus mediocres” (or “There is a whiff of arrogance in mediocre spirits“) landing in 2017. National tours with prominent acts like Hora Zulú, Rayden, and Skunk D.F followed, the bands accessible melodies, sincere lyrics and punchy riffs drawing crowds. 2022 saw the band re-emerge with a new line up and a sophomore album in “Lapso” (or “Lapse“), the quintet becoming finalists at the road to Resurrection Fest competition for two consecutive years. Still hungry, new record “Salir del Bucle” (or “Breaking the Cycle“) marks a new chapter as it muses on real life experiences and lessons learned the hard way by making mistakes, persisting, starting over and making amends.

A nostalgic throwback to the electronicore of “Mind Games” era Palisades opening cut “LA PRESA” (or “The Capture“) fuses together hip-hip verses and chemical beats with crunchy guitars and screamed choruses making it more than enough to put bounce in the mosh pit in front of festival stages. That gets the record off to a great start before the band go a shade heavier with “Dualidad” (or “Duality“), the almost tribal drum patterns, dirge laden guitars and roar at the during the opening verse a nod to bands like Ill Nino, the Spanish vocals aiding that comparison. The song mellows out a bit in the middle but the vibe remains a potent one.

The electronics return for the oddly titled “Con cara de U” (or “With a U-Shaped Face“), the stripped back rhythm guitars and rapped vocals taking us back to 1999 and the height of the Nu-Metal era. Solid in car entertainment, the step up to provide unclean backing vocals underneath the clean ones drives the darker atmospheric nicely without going all out.

Breed 77 vibes creep into “Nunca lo dije” (or “I Never Said It“), the rich melodies and warm vocals of the earlier parts building into a heavier crescendo of bigger guitars and harsh screams. There is nothing like being accused of something you didn’t do or say but that atmosphere of being resigned to the fate that someone else’s false words have left you with is captured perfectly.

Last but by no means least in “DentrO del RuidO” (or “Inside The Noise“) the band have created a cut that works well as a kind of summary piece of the entire record, capturing all the elements that make it in a single easy to swallow pill. You can just picture the quintet being able to squeeze another ten percent more energy out of this one live, the soaring anthemic vocal lines making this a summer classic [7/10]
