NEWS: Volubilis arise from Ashes and Embers!
It’s been a long time in the works but a debut album from Canadian Progressive Technical Death Metal monsters Volubilis is finally set to arrive on 10th July with a remastered version of “Ashes & Embers” the first single. The reason that the record has been a long time coming is simply because the band create music that is intricate, hyper‑speed driven, melodic, modern and fully immersive, drawing on a wide range of influences that reach from Black Metal to Classical Music. Add to that creating an expansive science fiction universe in which to tell their tales and you have a beast on your hands. Pre-orders are available over at bandcamp.
“Theasterion” is a fully conceptual record that follows a sweeping science‑fiction narrative. Humanity, no longer able to survive on Earth, colonizes a satellite orbiting the planet Theasterion. When a mysterious monument, the Prism, appears, its glyphs reveal a prophecy foretelling the supernova of the nearest star, Unukhalai. The revelation fractures the colony, igniting political upheaval, a coup d’état, and a desperate expedition to the hostile planet below. There, the explorers encounter the Homo Cumulus, a non‑linear anthropoid species evolved beyond human comprehension. As tensions rise and resources collapse, humanity faces extinction long before the cataclysm arrives.
Guitarist Miguel Marcheterre-Pina:“This album represents a significant milestone, not just for us, but for the visibility of Afro‑Canadian and BIPOC artists in extreme metal. Theasterion is a legacy project. It’s meant to inspire others to pursue their creative visions, even with limited resources”
