NEWS: Wormwood create in Nordic Noir…
Taking inspiration from the bleak, atmospheric tone of Scandinavian crime fiction, the genre widely known as Nordic Noir, a music video for “Yra / Extas” has emerged from Wormwood. It follows a single mother living on the fringes of society as she confronts her inner demons, self‑destructive impulses, and downward spiral toward the absolute abyss and was created in collaboration with Svartna Film and actress Astrid Hallén.
On 7th August the acclaimed Extreme Metal act will witness Black Lodge Records and Sound Pollution distribute their new EP “Å“, an affair mixed and mastered by acclaimed producer Sverker Widgren (Desolator, Fimbul Winter, Diabolical) at Wing Studios in Stockholm.

Some bands write good songs. Wormwood create worlds.
Ever since I first discovered this extraordinary Swedish outfit, they have continued to surprise me. Not by becoming heavier or faster, but by constantly finding new ways to merge crushing blackened aggression with breathtaking melodies, cinematic arrangements and an emotional depth that very few bands in extreme metal can achieve.
With Å, they once again prove why they belong among Sweden’s most creative metal bands. Although the EP contains only two songs, both exceed the seven-minute mark and feel like complete journeys rather than individual tracks. Yra | Extas unfolds with hypnotic intensity, seamlessly moving between folk-inspired grandeur, fierce blackened riffs and melodies that refuse to leave your head. Purposeless Geometry might be even more astonishing, introducing an almost tribal, haunting sing-along motif that shouldn’t work in such an extreme setting—yet somehow becomes utterly irresistible.
What impresses me most is Wormwood’s courage to ignore conventions. Their music breathes, evolves and constantly reveals new details with every listen. The crystal-clear production by Sverker Widgren gives every layer room to shine without sacrificing any of the band’s raw emotional power.
Few bands manage to sound this epic, this dark and this emotionally captivating at the same time. Å is another remarkable chapter in Wormwood’s ever-growing catalogue and confirms that they remain one of the most original and compelling forces in modern extreme metal. Essential listening.
