NEWS: Abhoria open the gates!
Coinciding with the start of their American Southwest tour with Colorado Folk Doom conjurers Velnias, Dystopian Black Metal stewards Abhoria have shared “Ambition and Delusion”. The track is the first from the bands forthcoming third album “The Gateway” which is slated for a 2027 via Black Lion Records having been mixed by Herbrand Larsen (Enslaved, Taake, Aeternus) at Conclave and Earshot Studios and mastered by Tony Lindgren (Aborted, At the Gates, Dark Tranquillity) at Fascination Street Studios.
Guitarist and songwriter Trevor Portz: ““Ambition and Delusion” tells the story of James Gordon Bennett Jr., the eccentric 19th-century publishing magnate, sportsman and larger-than-life personality. His reputation was so notorious that the old expression of shock or disbelief, “Gordon Bennett!”, is often thought to have been inspired by him.
Known for his outrageous and often extreme behavior, Bennett also financed the ill-fated 1879 Jeannette expedition, an American attempt to reach the North Pole.
The song is written from Bennett’s point of view, exploring his desire to overcome his reputation as an embarrassment by achieving something he believes will transform him into a hero. His motives, however, are far from noble, driven instead by ego, entitlement and self-interest“
