Exclusive Interview: HollowKin take us track by track through EP “Confessions & Failures”!

Ahead of the imminent arrival of EP “Confessions & Failures” which is set to strike like the comet in Morgan Freeman’s Deep Impact and after they reduced venues to rubble in England and Wales last month, we had the pleasure of a conversation with Bath Progressive Metalcore five piece HollowKin. They took us track by track through the 15th November arrival, leaving no stone unturned in their pursuit of their heavyweight, groove soaked and hook laden vision…

Vocalist James Steaton-Pritchard talks about the influence behind their new EP: “With Confessions & Failures, we wanted to come out swinging, showcasing our musical range and influences. The EP moves between socially driven and introspective in equal measure, angry with the state of the world and ourselves.

In Heresy“This was one of the first tracks we wrote. I’m obsessed with Dante’s Comedy and was looking for something to write about. I challenged myself to base a song around a picture I had on my wall from Inferno. It explores themes of judgment; hypocrisy and what legacy really means”

Leech“We wanted to push the heaviness of the instruments, chucking in some thrash influences. Lyrically the song is a disparaging, cathartic outpouring of bile about the powerful people check their ethics at the door in order to appeal to the people who can get them where they want to go”

A Pilgrimage: “A dark and introspective track, it opens with the Victor Hugo poem Demain, dès l’aube (Tomorrow at Dawn). The rest of the track uses this as a jumping off point about grief, loss and self-reflection as the music marches along at a weighed down thudding pace”

The Devil In Your Garden: “Based around fast grooving riffs, this track is another introspective one. It recognises our own imperfections and tries to acknowledge those flaws and work on them rather than pushing blame onto others. Bad times can make you a better person if you are willing to learn and grow from them.”
