Bootleg: “Compromis” from Turpentine Valley!

Exactly 1 year ago, Belgian Post-Metal band Turpentine Valley released their debut album ‘ETCH’ on Dunk!Records. The plans to celebrate that anniversary with a number of live shows they set up themselves, were cancelled for obvious reasons. But instead of getting stuck, the band performed a live session featuring some of the songs on that record at Dunk!Studios. ‘Compromis’ is the first one of those videos to be released.

Of course we prefer to play in front of a live audience,” drummer Roel Berlaen says, “but in these bizarre times this recording session was a welcome opportunity to play our live set once again“. The idea arose when it became clear that the original ‘first ETCH anniversary show‘ would not be able to take place. And that’s how, invited by Dunk!Records, Turpentine Valley ended up in the studio to record the set of that evening live. Mantis and Stories From The Lost (both bands were on the bill for that same show) did the same. Some videos of their live sessions were released earlier together with their new records that came out through Dunk!Records this autumn.

Our debut album ETCH came out at the end of 2019, we played about 6 shows to promote the record … and then came the lockdown,” Turpentine Valley bass player Thomas Maes looks back on an very weird year. “Dozens of shows and some festivals were cancelled due to Corona. And so we barely got the chance to perform live and get our new music to as many people as possible.”

Kristof Balduyck (guitar): “We took the opportunity to write new songs and record demos. We are currently fine-tuning them and are planning to get back into the studio to record them.”

Etch” by Turpentine Valley is out now and available over at bandcamp.
