The Black Map #184: LVCIFYRE from London!
Doesn’t time fly when you’re having fun or working like a slave? It’s that time of the week once again, when nursing a hangover with hot coffee and aspirin, we talk about one of the lesser lights of heaven in the UK Metal Underground scene in a weekly feature we call The Black Map. This week it is the turn of LVCIFYRE, a Blackened Death Metal (or perhaps more correctly a Death infused Black Metal) outfit from London who have leeched upon our very souls, armed to the teeth with lyrical themes of Satanism, Chaos, Depths, Darkness and Death since 2007. For some reason the phrase “seasoned musicians” always makes us think of “Seasoning The Obese” by Storm Troopers Of Death but with core members T. Kaos and Menthor being part of at least sixteen bands including Death Like Mass, Enthroned and Nightbringer, the term could not be more aptly applied and with a trio of albums and a pair of EPs to date their partnership has been sealed…
…and while the title track of their 2014 album “Sun Eater” remains the fans favourite single, this years burnt offering to the Metal Gods “The Broken Seal” is for us at least, their finest and most intriguing hour. For when they made their way to Milan’s SPVN Studio in early 2020, they had no idea of just how much the hellscape of the World around them would change between recording and release of the record. A collection of tales of sorcery and witchcraft from the bowels of the ancient European Underworld, of myth and of legend, retold with their signature sound and adorned by cover art depicting a serpent like Medusa by Daniele Valeriani, it is a lasting moment of pure evil with an almost cinematic quality that doesn’t fade away into the darkness of the abyss of the mind…
