Vs Tuesday: Two Bands! One Song! Who Wins?! FIGHT! Carry On!
Nine gold albums, three multi-platinum albums, one other platinum studio album, one platinum live double album, a million-selling single and sold-out arenas and stadiums throughout North America, Europe and Japan. That’s the stellar career of American Rock band Kansas summed up in a sentence. They’ve been strutting their stuff since 1970 and show little sign of wanting to call it a night with 50th Anniversary shows for “Point Of Know Return” set for this year. Our pick for today’s head to head is the most obvious one in “Carry On Wayward Son“, the second most played track on US classic rock radio in 1995 which then reached the top spot in 1997.
Plenty of bands have covered it, some doing their own thing and some playing it straight without a twist or a tweak making picking our prize fighters for this one something of a challenge. In the Red Corner with have the almighty Anthrax, who by their own admission are no strangers to a cover with their own big anniversary on the horizon. In the Blue Corner we have the more controversial choice in Within The Ruins. They released their version on an EP called “Omen” that accompanied their appearance on the 2011 incarnation of the Summer Slaughter Tour. Who Wins? You decide!
