Track Review: “This Is Your Life” by Weaponry
Specialists in cynical sad Post-Hardcore songs with happy endings, a pair of EPs from Weaponry have left us knowing what to expect from them, especially when their co-conspirator in producer Daly George (Creeper, Milk Teeth, Boston Manor) is at the helm. Said to have become something from nothing in a three to four hours in his company at The Ranch Production House, the release of new single “This Is Your Life” is surprise following a period of radio silence from the band…
…During the sessions for last years EP “Forever Nothing” vocalist Al Bristow offered up some experimentation with a cleaner vocal style for some lines in a few songs, something which drew out some faux American accenting while also giving the band a new dimension. This new song showcases the bands ability to create some powerful melodic material without moving too far adrift from their core sound while trying something fresh, new and ultimately brave. Al Bristow sounds like Sam Carter from Progressive Metalcore heroes Architects on “This Is Your Life” while sonically the band play with richer melodies to counterpart his angst filled lyrical narrative, the chorus not only catchy but fearfully addictive. Guitars are credited to Bristow and George respectively, still delivering a satisfying crunch on an arena filling anthem with vibrant leads adding to a growing sense of melancholia as the track plays out. It has to be said that it is the final thirty seconds that elevates the track to a new realm of existence as Bristow steps up to an unclean vocal for a powerfully grand finale surrounded by the power of the bands trademark rhythm section. At a hundred an fifty two seconds, this could easily go on one more verse and chorus and we’d love every minute [9/10]
