NEWS: Defy The Tyrants strangle their victims?

San Diego California five piece Defy The Tyrants have finally unveiled a studio rendition and music video of a cut that has long been a favourite of their live set in “By My Hands“. A little bit of Deathcore, a little bit of DJent, it’s one for some air guitar action with the seven string giving the ear drums absolutely no mercy…

The band comment: ““By My Hands” is here. A single that has been 4 years in the making.

Originally featured on our 2019 Ep ‘Asylum’, “By My Hands” was meant to be the lead off single for that Ep. However, shortly after the original music video for “By My Hands” was filmed and after the Ep’s release, our original vocalist was exited from Defy The Tyrants and the entire Ep was shelved for the most part. As luck would have it, “By My Hands” became one of the most streamed songs in our catalog prior to our 2021 return and became a staple in our live show. “By My Hands” is still an integral part of our live set and has been for. A few years now.

Following the induction of our frontman Zach Salazar into Defy The Tyrants, we had discussed how many of our previous songs would continue into the new era of Defy and “By My Hands” was the only one that made the cut. Primarily because musically it was conceived by our guitarist Anthony Esparza and vocally/lyrically was written by our drummer, Brandon Lobb, which meant it featured no contributions from our previous vocalist. This allowed Zach to have the freedom to put his stamp on it and we love what he brought to it.

Last year, while we were beginning work on our upcoming album, we had discussed a potential single release for 2023 to hold over our amazing supporters and found the original drum tracks for “By My Hands”. We decided to re-record all the guitar and bass tracks while changing a few things here and there. Having Zach record his vocals and adding his stamp was surreal as we have always heard him perform the song live and knew that he could make the song much more unique for us.

The results speak for themselves. Mixed and mastered by our own Brandon Lobb, Defy The Tyrants is proud to reintroduce “By My Hands” to old and new supporters alike. Even though “By My Hands” will not be featured on our upcoming album, it’s influence is all over it. From blending heavy Djent riffs with an old school thrash style, groove heavy breakdowns, and a soaring Swedish death metal stylized hook, “By My Hands” is a harbinger of things to come
