Review: “Lilith In Aries” by Lilith’s Demise

Miami Florida Deathcore four piece Lilith’s Demise made tsunami waves with a pair of heavy hitting singles in 2023 that announced their presence to the World in violent fashion. 41k of Spotify and YouTube streams combined for “I’m A Wh*re” is the kind of immediate return that turns heads and no doubt served as inspiration to vocalist Ana-Kamilla Arnback, guitarist Matthew Dowell, bassist Lucas Rau and drummer Christopher Perez to keep doing what they do.

The banshee like roar of a woman scorned brings “Reflection” to life like a post seduction Medusa ready to eat your soul, her voice surrounded by swirling razor sharp Deathcore riffs with cutting edge of a thousand Samurai swords. A sixty second burst of violent turbulence with spine juddering angular guitars that slow to a Downtempo Deathcore energy, they chest burst back like the Alien though John Hurt in 1979 as the tempo shifts back up for “The Anomaly“. The vocal performance borders on feral, the extreme nature of the violent display moving between gravelly lows and shrill larynx threatening highs with consummate ease. Monsterous and all consuming Ana-Kamilla Arnback, has the prowess to go toe to toe with Will Ramos, no word of a lie. As for riffs… Is Brutal Slamming Technical Deathcore even a sub-genre? By definition “Core” and “Technical” don’t belong together but here, they’re not only best friends but lovers. Then you’ve got the stuccato riff infestations that bleed into “Reap What You Sow” and they’re impossible to ignore. A full throttle assault on the senses designed for maximum shock factor, this one is like the tectonic plates shifting beneath your feet. A false ending is perfect executed before blast beats hit like an artillery shelling, then a downtempo bridge rolls into a melodic lead, giving another dimension, all the while the relentless vocals scalding the ear canals like a red hot poker. This isn’t just brutal and savage but a whole new realm of pain and there is more to come as the atmospheric crusher “So, How Does It Feel?” absolutely decimates. What’s clever about these songs is that each one has brilliantly worked tempo shifts and moments of silence so it’s actually impossible for the untrained ear to identify the start and end of a single track. Instead they flow together like rivers of blood like a force of nature. This may only be a ten minute drop but it’s one that you’re never going to forget [8/10]
