NEWS: Codespeaker choose rescission before reinvestment?

Bruising Sludge infused Post Metal from Scotland? That will be Edinburgh based Codespeaker who have shared the bleak and monolithic “Rescission” from their 8th November via Ripcord Records releasing second album “Scavenger“. Down tuned and dissonant to the last, will it build upon the critical acclaim the band received for their 2022 self titled debut by delving deeper into dark, atmospheric and intense post-metal soundscapes, further solidifying the band’s place in the genre?

The band comment: “‘Rescission’ is about brinksmanship and God complexes. We’ve built a world where we have the power to end our own existence and we gamble so much on the idea that, if it comes down to it, someone will flinch first and accept defeat rather than commit to mutual destruction. As we give more and more power to populists, narcissists and self-worshippers, we hand over control to those who’s egos would never allow them to flinch, those who would rather end everything than be seen to lose. What happens when two such people come to blows? How culpable are we for handing such people the reins in the first place?”

Reflecting on the album, the band shared: “Scavenger was an interesting album for us. With 3 of 5 members joining since our last album, we wanted to create something that felt like a new incarnation of Codespeaker while remaining true to our sound. It was challenging, but we’re proud of how it all came together. While our self-titled album had a certain warmth and wonder about the human experience, Scavenger is more pointed and aggressive. It reflects the darkening sociopolitical landscape we were living through—there’s a sense of desperation and anger. The lyrics focus on power structures and those who suffer under them. It’s an ode to the powerless.”
