NEWS: Castrator prey for the grotesque!
Cementing their reputation as a commanding live force by opening for the likes of Immolation, Exhumed and Cattle Decapitation, Death Metal quartet Castrator now have a sophomore album waiting in the wings. “Coronation of the Grotesque” will see the cold light of day on 15th August via Dark Descent Records, marking the recording debut of new guitarist Sara Loerlein. Curiously the band recorded the album across multiple studios with key figures in the US Death Metal scene in order to push themselves to their limits. Bass recording was engineered by John Tardy (Obituary) at Redneck Studios before guitars and vocals with Jordan Milner (The Breathing Process) at Obsidian Audio. Additional guitars were tracked by Taylor Nordberg (Deicide) at Smoke and Mirrors Productions and finally drums with Noah Buchanan (Nunslaughter) at Mercinary Studios, who later handled mixing and mastering. Once completed, the record was adorned by cover artwork by John Zig (Widower, Ominous Scriptures, Urosepsis). “Covenant of Deceit” is now streaming in music video form.
Drummer Carolina Perez comments: “We see it as a leap forward. It’s by far the strongest work we’ve done to date. Writing Coronation of the Grotesque was an incredibly enjoyable experience, and everything seemed to come together much more naturally this time. While the album still retains elements of who we were as a band, it’s much more refined, cohesive, and brutal. [New guitarist] Sara [Loerlein] has been fantastic. She’s incredibly professional, brings a ton of new ideas, and her experience really shines through. She’s added a fresh dynamic to the band, and her guitar leads are absolutely killer! We’re really excited to have her as part of the band.”
