Structured as a three-part cosmic death ritual, a new album in “Dreaming Rat” by Seattle Dissonant Blackened Death Metal quartet Voidthrone follows a triptych of parallel arcs. A solar system burning through its lifespan, a civilization collapsing under its own complexity, and a parasite replicating itself across language, culture and flesh all happens in the same space and time like a fever dream. As if that didn’t sound bar shit crazy enough, the band bring with them some left field instruments with a Japanese Otamatone, Jaw Harp, Fretless Bass, Vibraslap, Didgeridoo and Spoons used in it’s creating.
