NEWS: Absolute Power issue a call to arms?

Featuring a myriad of guests including Tim “Ripper” Owens (Judas Priest, Iced Earth), Mark Gemini Thwaite (The Mission, Tricky), John Cooke (Napalm Death) and Carl Stokes (Cancer, The Groundhogs), the upcoming new album “Needs Must When The Devil Drives” by Absolute Power is set to arrive on 6th November via Time To Kill Records. Fifteen years after the release of their self-titled debut, the heavy metal project founded by vocalist and producer Simon Efemey and Napalm Death bassist Shane Embury returns with a powerful celebration of classic Heavy Metal and “Stand Up and Be Counted” is the latest advance from that. Are you ready?

Shane Embury: “Lyrically, this song is about growing up in a small village in an area surrounded by other small villages, before the Internet and social media. Back then, magazines and radio stations were my main sources for discovering hard rock and heavy metal. I always felt like an outcast, and heavy metal, followed later by punk, made it okay to feel that way. In truth, though, my friends and I were each following our own individual paths towards liberation.

The excitement I felt as a kid when buying a new album or hearing a new track by one of my favourite bands was incredible. Those feelings drove me to become a musician. Nothing quite compares to that, but back then, meeting a new friend and connecting through a shared love of heavy metal gave you a wonderful sense of belonging. ‘Stand Up and Be Counted’ makes just as much sense today as it did back then“.
