Review: “In Silbernen Sprachen” by Urzirkel

Described as a descent into the hidden liturgies of an ancient terrestrial cult, where earth and heaven are not opposites but broken reflections of the same primordial body, “In Silbernen Sprachen” (or “In Silver Tongues“) is a portrait in raw Black Metal from German three piece Urzirkel. Recorded and mixed in Autumn 2025 by Daniel Möhring (Toadeater) before mastering by Role at Tonmeisterei Oldenburg, the record is said to move through themes of earth, blood, divine ruin, sacred law, death, decay and rebirth as it unfolds…

Intertwining rich dark melodies with blast beats and ferocious vocals, Urzirkel take the blueprint laid down by Harakiri for the Sky and inject a lethal dose of venom with opening cut  “Niebo I Ziemia” (or “Heaven and Earth“) to send a chill down the spine. The intense percussive battery feels like a tornado of evil souls swirling in perpetual darkness, the savage vocals like banshee wails and yet despite all that harshness the guitars are wonderfully melancholic. While it is described as raw Black Metal and in truth the recording sounds a little rough around the edges, this isn’t something recorded in a cave with a potato for a microphone. No this actually sounds like a Post-Black Metal monstrosity of epic proportions that would sound epic given the right surroundings.

An eerie melody introduces “Himmlischer Funke” (or “Heavenly Spark“) before evolving into a wall of noise, the restless and relentless percussion the driving force behind the material. It’s like walking along a clifftop in the dead of night during a violent storm, the Black Metal sounds beating you into submission like the driving rain. There are a few ethereal touches to be heard almost like a nuance upon repeated listen, the female spoken word which echoes out in the final third offering momentary reprieve.

The ritual continues into “Heiliger Kreis” (or “Sacred Circle“) which has a Death Metal leaning opening riff before the Black Metal onslaught begins in earnest. Whats interesting about this one is that the band embrace a melodic interlude which includes an incantation before the sonic wall rises once more, the words of the incantation being repeated in the harshest of screams as the riffs fly in all directions like a hail of bullets. That gives the song the epic feel which was almost but not quite reached on the previous pair of cuts and leaves you wondering just what the band could be capable of if they were given time with someone like Scott Atkins.

More desperate cries appear in “Król Duch” (or “The Spirit King“) as wave after crushing wave of intense emotive Black Metal sounds wash over the discerning listener like an unstoppable force of nature. The musicianship and compositional skills are highly impressive as the band create something both enthralling and captivating while threatening to push into Extreme Metal territory. It almost feels at points like the band are starring into the void, screaming until their lungs collapse, the final acoustic moment signalling the pain is over [7.5/10]
