Review: “From Flesh To Void” by Uninhibited
Having once played together in a Hardcore band that toured Europe, long time friends in vocalist Sebastian “Basti” Markovic and multi instrumentalist Marco Kärger decided to start a studio project in 2023. Sharing a nightmarish vision for a sound without limits, no rules and no compromises they chose the name Uninhibited and having bonded over a mutual love of classic Death Metal bands like Cannibal Corpse, Morbid Angel and Entombed they wasted no time in blazing a trail. Taking a DIY or DIE approach the pair wrote, recorded, produced, mixed and mastered everything in house, enjoying complete freedom to do as they wished and since then the carnage has never stopped. Despite being split between the German cities of Munich and Oberhaus, their prolific writing partnership has seen them deliver to the world record 2023 EP “Ascend The Plank“, 2024 album “Reign of the Unholy” and 2025 EP “Scourge” with 2026 EP “From Flesh To Void” their latest cryptic message…
…and its not so much a message in a bottle as a stark warning of the shape of Death Metal to come with the ominous yet melancholic atmospheres of the instrumental introduction piece setting the scene with some Melodic Death Metal leaning lead guitars. All is not forgotten as the menacing and sinister “Blood Baptized” rises from the flames, a track that finds the duo testing our resolve with some groove orientated riffs and bursts of gravity blasting. The razor sharp riffs and caustic vocal abrasions are a malevolent creation, the return to those melodic moments coming fleetingly to offer respite from their storm of nails. A restless and relentless onslaught then ensues in “Choosing Death“, the pair taking things back to the 90’s Florida scene for some old school blood and thunder. Markovic’s vocals are a classic raspy bellow and in truth there is nothing to suggest the pair hail from Germany in this at all save for a few moments of very fleeting accent that are almost completely unnoticeable to the untrained ear.
Taking things to neck snapping levels “When I Became Godless” feels like the pair are paying homage to bands like Pissing Razors with their Death Thrash riffs with this tale of bloody murder a chemically enhanced by the first solo. You need to make sure you check your surroundings before getting involved in the echoed chants of “Kill! Kill!” which live no doubt would come across as some kind of occult ritual and end up with a mosh pit blood bath. There is more intensity to the ripper that is “Crematorium” and fans will no doubt be grateful that Markovic passes up the obvious opportunity for clean vocals in the mid section. It wouldn’t be what Uninhibited are about despite having no rules. “Grave Or Grace” has plenty of bark and bite to it, the old school Death Metal drum sound perfectly fitting as if borrowed from someone like former Twitch Of The Death Nerve sticks-man Mauricio Marín. Kärger ensures his name gets mentioned with another solo, this one having a little bluesy feel about it while being tastefully done despite the cut sounding like something far more primal. All in all a fun, nostalgic Death Metal odyssey that serves as a reminder of just what this pair are capable of… [7/10]
