5 Albums I Want To Be Buried With #20: Semper Acerbus!
After they released their third studio album “Following Omens” via Eclipse Records earlier this month we caught up with vocalist Nelson from Del Rio Texas Metalcore outfit Semper Acerbus to talk “5 Albums I Want To Be Buried With“. As it transpires the album is one that very much wears the bands influences on their collective sleeves, the five piece having gone as far as sharing stages with some of their heroes at the likes of The Blue Ridge Rock Fest, Full Terror Assault and The Colombia Tattoo Music Fest. Produced, mixed and mastered by Chris Mora (Upon a Burning Body, Kingdom Collapse, Chimaira) at Warhorse Recordings in San Antonio Texas and adorned by artwork from Federico Bossinga (Dark Funeral, Dimmu Borgir, Oceano) at Abstract Chaos Design, the album speaks for itself so if you haven’t already, we recommend checking it out!
The premise is simple: “Back in ancient Egypt they believed that the items their Kings were buried with would travel with them into the afterlife and so part of the burial ritual would see the mummified bodies surrounded by chariots, gold and more. Fast forward to now. If there were five albums that you’d want buried in the coffin with you to take to the afterlife, what would you choose?”
1. “….and Justice for all” by Metallica
“Even that my taste for music is amazingly vast, I always pick albums that shaped my musicianship in one way or another. First album would be “….and Justice for all” by Metallica, young teen getting my brains blown by this album while getting ready for school!”
2. “Awake” by Dream Theater
“Second would have to be “Awake” from Dream theater. At that time I was a drummer so I was trying to find intricate music to try to push my boundaries”
3. “Roots” by Sepultura
“Third “Roots” by Sepultura. Heavy, trashy in your face kinda stuff while exposing those tribal sounds that I love, coming from the Caribbean”
4. “Get Some” by Snot
My fourth would be “Get Some” by Snot. The blends of funk, jazzy fills, hardcore and groove really captivated my creativity, thats why I never hold my music taste to one genre.
5. “Alive or just Breathing” by Killswitch Engage
“Last but not least “Alive or just Breathing” by Killswitch Engage, this band change everything for me, this band made me wanted to do vocals, Jesse Leach inspired me, the lyrics, the sound. That blend I believe it was perfect, harmonious, heavy, relentless and positive, I was sold! I’m Nelson from Semper Acerbus and this are my 5 albums for the afterlife!”
