The 12 Days of Christmas #5: “Eye Of The Tiger” by Devil You Know!

The festivity of the twelve days of Christmas runs from 25th December to 5th January, based on an English Christmas Carol that sees a lover give gifts cumulatively over the Christmas season starting with Christmas Day. Originally published in 1780, it’s probably French in origin, Skull Island has been conquered many times in it’s rich heritage. So for the twelve days, we’re doing twelve Metal tracks that have something to do with the item. What?!

“On the fifth day of Christmas my true love gave to me Five gold rings, Four calling birds, Three French hens, Two turtle doves and a partridge in a pear tree”

There are several version of this Carol, one says “Five gold rings” and another says “Five golden rings“. Golden rings? Like Onion Rings? That’s going to be one hell of a tenuous link unless the founders of “Drive Thru Metal” otherwise known as Mac Sabbath have a song along those lines… So “Five Gold Rings”? That’s the Olympics… which somehow brings us to Rocky and therefore “The Eye Of The Tiger”, originally by Survivor and covered by the artists formerly known as Devil You Know, now affectionately refereed to as Light The Torch. Phew! It is the bonus track on the band’s second studio album, “They Bleed Red“, out now via Nuclear Blast Entertainment
