Exclusive Interview: Struck/Down take apart “To Witches” track by track!
A character based concept EP that tells a uniquely dark tale, “To Witches” is the next chapter in the book of Canterbury Groove Metallers Struck/Down. The storyline centers around a villainous character, named Father Bernard, over five fresh cuts with monstrous second single “Nephilim” released just a few days old. Produced, Mixed and Mastered by Ian Sadler it offers a blend of Doom, Thrash and Grove with the band have kindly breaking down the narrative for us track by track…
““The Enforcer” The melodic belter that is the Enforcer; tells the story of how Father Bernard acquired his most boisterous pawn, taken from prize fighting and street brawling, refined for the good of evil, and to become a significant unknown catalyst to Bernard’s most recent tyranny puppet play”
“”Nephilim” is the story of an earthly angel’s descent, from a sheltered upbringing to a justice focussed career, our angel is corrupted by the true reality humans are subjected to, and the depths one man can send another to. With his sense of moral superiority, he becomes the doom bringer to those found in the wrong place at the wrong time”
“”No value” is Father Bernard’s lecture to the sheepish society surrendering their strength to his and the law’s rule. Focussing on society’s struggles with feeling insignificant and hopeless regarding the impact they could have on how the world treats them, words are of no importance if the messenger can be ignored”
“”Tyranny Hellride” is a chance for Father Bernard to gloat about his contributions to society wide misery. He mocks their feeble labour, the eagerness they have to deny truths told to them, and that they all save for an unpromising tomorrow at the cost of today. He even promotes the solution, comfortable that humanity can no longer rise to the occasion”
“”Son of the Unburnt Witch” is a further assessment made by Father Bernard, he follows an individual trying to make sense of a creature with such destructive potential, yet still deceived by the matrix they live in. The character in question is a descendant of a fellow witch in Father Bernard’s origins, leaving Bernard clinging to his anger and bitterness, nervous that one day his reign may end”
“To Witches” by Struck/Down is out 7th July and will be available everywhere you’d expect it to be and some places you wouldn’t including bandcamp.
