London’s New Cross Inn is the venue for this weekends Upsurge Festival, combining a fine selection of underground Metal and Hardcore talent with a sprinkling of bigger names and UK Exclusives for 2018 across the Bank Holiday. Saturday is billed as the “Sheer Terror Warm Up Show” and sees 8 bands take the stage… …Victim
The Adnam Stage is where we’re at, in The Lanes bowling alley for Bristol’s Fat Lip Feat 2018! Fat Lip has been going since 2013 with regular live shows and taking its name from the much loved Sum 41 song. The annual one dayer is split across 4 stages and 3 venues in a close
Sunday, day 4 and the sun is out. It’s hot, we’re tired and sweaty but well up for it with some fantastic bands on the bill today. Opening up are Leeched [7/10] who make enough noise as a trio to take on any quintet. These dudes are Napalm Death for 2018 and smash the daylights
It’s another sweltering day at Newark Showgrounds that kicks off with Pravitas [7.5/10] from Leeds draw the biggest opening crowd of the weekend so far. Their bend of Technical Groove Metal with bludgeoned vocals goes down well. The bass work on closing new song is absolutely phenomenal. Tiberius [6.5/10] are a heavier version of something
Due to circumstances outside of their control, Jinjer have been left stranded with no Visas and therefore forced to cancel UK Tech-Fest and last nights show in Guildford. So we have lineup changes… Altitudes [7/10] from Bristol open up this mornings proceedings with some well delivered instrumental Technical Metal (or Cathedral Metal as we like to call
It’s hotter than Crematoria and after a lengthy drive and tents pitched, we grab a pint and check out female fronted opening act Jonny Turner [7/10] who’s emotional progressive tech-metal fits the surroundings perfectly despite the heat. The second band on the Waghorn guitars stage is Fractions [8/10]. The fully bearded quintet from Leicester smash
Southampton Joiners is a sweat box of a venue at the best of times and tonight is no different. Portsmouth’s Sleepwalker [7/10] take the stage and get things started in tech-infused low tuned Metalcore style with frontman Sam Salkeld baiting the crowd (perhaps with that Southampton Portsmouth rivalry thing going on) before joining a circle pit.
The O2 Academy 2 in Oxford is the venue for tonight’s live mayhem, with a pair of home town bands on an impressive bill that could and perhaps should be a tour in it’s own right, rather than a one off warm up show for Carcer City before they play Camden Rocks! Opening a show
Tonight is the second of Machine Head‘s sold out back to back “Evening With” nights at the 1,700 capacity Roundhouse in London, a pair of dates slap-bang in the middle of the Oakland California Metaller’s eight date UK run. From the opening bars of “Imperium” to the ticker-tape fall of “Halo” the show is a celebration
The O2 Academy Oxford has two shows on tonight. The main auditorium has South African hard rockers Seether playing a headlining show on their “Poison the Parish” tour while the Academy 2, the second stage, has Death Remains headlining a bill of 5 underground metal bands as they play 9 dates beside Stoke-on-Trent’s answer to Every Time
