Vs Tuesday: Two Bands! One Song! Who Wins? Fight! “Zero” by The Smashing Pumpkins!

Probably one of the most recognisable songs from The Smashing Pumpkins 1995 2 hour plus 28 song marathon double album “Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness” (they don’t release epics like this anymore, labels double their money by splitting them in two and releasing them 6 months apart!) is the iconic “Zero”. It’s been done a number of times by a number of bands, but here are two of our favourite versions.

In the red corner the now sadly departed Vanna with their take on the classic, no doubt inspired by now Trove frontman Davey Muise’s love for all things alternative hard rock.

In the blue corner Jacksonville, Florida’s finest Evergreen Terrace take on the track in their hardcore-punk-metal style on their 2004 covers album “Writers Block”. Now with Drew Carey and Christopher Brown back in the band and “riffs happening”, we’re hoping for a new album from them soon. It’s been 5 long years since “Dead Horses” after all! Who wins? You decide.
