The Artwork That Should Not Be #2: “Binge & Purgatory” by Deez Nuts!
When the much loved Australian Melodic Metalcore Heroes I Killed The Prom Queen called it a day in 2008, no-one could have predicted that drummer JJ Peters would have gone on to front highly successful Hardcore band in Deez Nuts. The band have been on the rise and rise since their debut “Rep Your Hood”. Even if 2015’s “Word Is Bond” was a bit flat, their return “Binge & Purgatory” is a heavier and punchier affair. Featuring guest vocals from Scott Vogel of Terror and Jamey Jasta of Hatebreed, it’s a real return to form.
The cover art features a Skull Jawbone, Cocaine wraps and cigarette butts with a punk-pop bubblegum pink background that stinks of label interference. If you were unlucky enough not to hear the band before you saw the cover, you might think you were getting involved with something like a band like Good Charlotte. Fortunately the Melbourne crew who took their inspiration for the album from New York City, crush any ideas of changing their sound like that with the title track and opening song.
