Vs. Tuesday: Two Bands! One Song! Who Wins? FIGHT! Nirvana.
While it never received a physical single in the US, “Heart Shaped Box” gained a lot of air play for the Nirvana and charted well as a single Internationally. The final song performed by Kurt Cobain live, it was actually one he described as “not perfect”. A much loved song in both album form on “In Utero” and acoustic form on their MTV Unplugged album, it began life in 1992 with the original title “Heart Shaped Coffin”. Kerrang Magazine included it at number 10 in their “100 Greatest Rock songs of all time” in 1999….
In the Red corner we have Underoath, who covered the song for their deluxe version of “Erase Me” in acoustic form. It’s been nearly a decade since the last album from the Tampa Florida band and this one has been praised for its clean and unclean vocal intertwinings. In the Blue corner we have Evanescence, with frontwoman Amy Lee delivering a sultry PJ Harvey esq performance against the acoustic guitar backdrop. Who wins? You decide!
