Review: “Self Titled” by Victim Of Your Dreams

Hailing from Little Rock, Arkansas is home to Metallic Hardcore brutes Victim Of Your Dreams, a quintet who we barely know anything about. Their self titled EP dropped at the end of August, consisting of five cut and is adorned by cover artwork that depicts an apocalyptic future while being mixed by Trae Roberts (Bruise, Empty, Mended), who is also credited with the “Crucified” music video…

…The drum sound maybe a little bit on the tinny side, think “Subliminal Verses” by Slipknot or “Errorzone” by Vein but the overall effect is the drive an aggressive and abrasive set of songs that have plenty in common with some of current crop of more caustic Metallic Hardcore bands that are around at the minute. “Crucified” uses some neat vocal touches to build atmosphere, moving between brutal Death Metal roars and a spoken word to accompany a schizophrenic rhythmic battery. The whammy bar drop is one is unexpected but in keeping with the sequels that surround it. “Beauty Of The Knife” takes what SeeYouSpaceCowboy are doing and kicks it in the guts with pile-driver riffs and a surprisingly groovy bassline. “Beyond Misery” brings things full circle with some early 2000s riffs, while the brutal barks and bleak atmospheric is a bone crushing weight on the chest that drags the chain wrapped corpse to the bottom of the bay. “Unholy Vengeance” has a more melodic touch in the unhinged clean vocals that sound like the unnerved voice of a prisoner in the dark, singing to himself to keep the demons at bay before instrumental breakdown “V.O.Y.D.” takes a Biohazard styled segment and modernises it with punch in the face intensity. Pour on the gasoline and set the place ablaze, Victim Of Your Dreams have the potential to be the next household name in the genre [7.5/10]
