Vs Tuesday: Two Bands! One Song! Who Wins?! FIGHT! Punishment.
The impact of Biohazard on Hardcore should not be underestimated. Back 1992 they released their second studio album “Urban Discipline” via Roadrunner Records as the Brooklyn New York quartet gained national and international attention after five years of hard graft. The turning point was the music video for single “Punishment” which got a lot of play on MTV’s Headbangers Ball, very much a driving force for Metal at the time and has since become the most played single on the show. The intro to the song was taken from the 1989 version of the film The Punisher starring Dolph Lundgren and the record itself has shifted over one million copies in the pre-digital age with songs like “Shades of Grey“, “Hold My Own” and Bad Religion cover “We’re Only Gonna Die (From Our Own Arrogance)” still appearing in the bands live set nearly 40 years on.
So in time honored tradition, to todays head to head. In the Red Corner we have The Last Opportunity featuring Rigor, a Hardcore Punk Beatdown act from Bogotá Colombia. They recorded their version after their Summer 2020 demo “Ultimate Opportunity” with Sander Bermudez at Soundtech Studios in as they put it, “resistance to the misery of the human race“. In the Blue Corner we have Overdry who after a few years of silence have returned with new material of their own in 2020 with mastermind Jerez de la Frontera back at the helm and February single “Mi otra verdad” being something special. Their version on of the song has a brilliant video accompaniment. Who wins? You decide!
