Vs Tuesday: Two Bands! One Song! Who Wins?! FIGHT! Sedated.
“Don’t call it a comeback, We’ve been here for years, Travelled the world and now we back with this, Made a few enemies but more friends than we can count, Got f***ed up in towns that I can’t even pronounce, And we’ve got nothing to prove got nothing to lose, Do what the fuck we want this is the life we chose, And you can catch DN at a show near you, Know how we do stay true” ~ JJ Peters
That’s right. Back after an extended break it’s time for some Vs Tuesday action as we throw two bands head to head in a metaphorical bear knuckle fight to the death to see whose cover of the same classic cut wins supremacy. Don’t write in folks, it’s just for s***s and giggles.
Often cited as the first true Punk Rock band, the highly influential Ramones formed in Queens New York in 1974 and by 1978 they were already on their fourth studio album in “Road To Ruin“. Arguably one of the bands most well known songs came from that in “I Wanna Be Sedated“, one which Joey Ramone explained was about being in a London hotel at Christmas in 1977 watching American movies as there was nothing to do and nowhere to go.
So to our head to head and this one is as easy as they come. In the blood red corner we have Nu-Metal warriors (hed)p.e. who go straight Punk Rawk and blow up your whole block with their rendition. That just so happens to be the first single from their covers album “70’s Hits From The Pit“. In the ice blue corner we have The Offspring who recorded their version of the classic for the 1999 comedy horror film Idle Hands which sees them play the tune at theĀ climax that is… a high school dance. Who wins? You decide!
