NEWS: Varius wear the crown of thorns…

In the same way as Periphery famously did with their record “Clear“, Canadians Varius have released an EP in “Concordance” which comprises one song with each different band member being at the writing helm and thus giving each one the opportunity to shine and show off their own influences as well as relying on the remaining band members to play their parts. Lyrical themes like fantasy, science fiction and horror are all wrapped within the record as well as some reflecting real-life issues through them and while sonically they’re described as Melodic Death Metal with influences of Amon Amarth, Carcass and At The Gates, there is more to them than meets the eye. They’ve shared “Golden Crown” in lyric video form with the record available over at bandcamp.

The band explain: “This song represents something completely different as far as what our audience would expect of us. It is the EP’s most straightforward track and is a mid tempo wall of sound. It has a more classic metal kind of sound, but with almost Amon Amarth style vocals. The calmer intro gives way to a massive chord based riff, and the song progresses into an epic guitar solo and dynamic build through the outro. Lyrically, the song touches on themes of battle, loyalty, and brotherhood. The lyrics were influenced by the concept of ancient warriors who lived and died by the sword and battled for their brothers in arms rather than glory and wealth
