NEWS: Stoneside sever the cold dead hand…
After a successful crowd funding campaign the first single from the upcoming sophomore record “The Desert” from Texas Progressive DJentlemen Stoneside has surfaced in “Cold Dead Hand“. It’s the first to appear since their critically acclaimed debut “The Water” and while no date has been announced as yet by the band inspired by the likes of Spiritbox, Deftones and Loathe for the new release, they do have a merch collection available here.
The band comment: “This is our first track off of our second record, ‘The Desert’. To make this record, we went out to far West Texas to spend time in Terlingua, Marfa, Alpine, and the Chihuahuan Desert. Every song is the story of an individual person’s life and death and we found many stories out there. From stories of racism to self-sacrifice to forgiveness given on someone’s last breath. Some were personal. some were more than a century old. This song is the story of Big John from Sonora, Texas. A ‘shoeshine boy’ in a barber shop, Big John and Granville (the barber) were friends despite the typical small town 1900’s racism that was the norm. One day, John didn’t show up for work. Concerned, Granville went looking for him. His body was found in The Devil’s River bed. He had been accused of having a relationship with a white woman who had become pregnant and had said that John was the father. Men of deep-seated racism got to him first..Sadly, In the end, it turned out she wasn’t pregnant by John. Rest In Peace John. You are immortal.”
