Throwback: “As We Speak” from Soilwork!

2002 was an amazing year for Swedish Melodic Death Metal with “Reroute to Remain” from In Flames, “Damage Done” from Dark Tranquillity and “Natural Born Chaos” from Soilwork all appearing on the horizon. For the band fronted by Björn “Speed” Strid, it was their first with keyboard player Sven Karlsson as the six piece were joined by Fredrik Nordström (At The Gates, Architects, Arch Enemy) in the producers chair but also Devin Townsend at a time when Strapping Young Lad where a force to be reckoned with. “As We Speak” was chosen as the lead single from the 10 track affair and rightly so as a showcase of what the critically acclaimed album has to offer, the last to fully embrace the genre before the band began to experiment in an Alternative Metal direction.
