Throwback: “Linchpin” from Fear Factory!

The 21st Anniversary of the final chapter in a trilogy album arc from Industrial Metal Kings Fear Factory is a curious one to celebrate as “Digimortal” received a mixed reaction amongst fans and critics while yet still having a big anthemic single in “Linchpin“. In some ways it was one troubled from the start as the band originally wanted to make an album with a less produced sound that wasn’t a concept record and that didn’t follow their previous approach to writing. The irony in all that is that it’s the polar opposite. Introducing elements of Nu-Metal into the bands sound while stripping back some of the complexities of previous records to simpler melodies, the songs are built on the concept of Man and Machine merging as one, co-dependent in order to survive. While it hasn’t matured like a fine wine, as with a number of albums that were at first rejected, “Digimortal” has become something of a guilty pleasure with age.
