Review: “Red Part 1” by Too Much Said The Nature

A year after the release of debut EP “Grey Part I” from anonymous one man project Too Much Said The Nature hailing from Sydanmaa in Finland with guest vocalists comes the not “Grey Part II” but “Red Part I” which begs the obvious question why? The original offering was well received, blending elements of traditional Black Metal with dark Post-Metal and even ambient moments to create something dynamic to take the listener on a journey. So how does the sequel compare? The first bite is with the eye and the cover art reminds us of the rivers of blood from Stephen King’s “The Shinning” before the dark and mysterious introduction to “Cellar” begins, surprisingly short and sinister at just 19 seconds before things burst into flame. Heavy riffs and a blood curdling roar burn the World before dropping into distorted vocals underpinned by an quirky melody that quickly rises again like the tide into those heavier climbs. The riffs are chunky and accompanied by thick bass tones while synths buried in the mix give an ethereal quality before a few lines of stunning female clean vocals to complete the cut on a soaring high.

The blood and thunder of “King of Kbystan” makes for another powerhouse cut that leans further into Extreme Metal territory, offering dark heavy brutal grooves and throat shredding vocals to snap the neck as it plays out in down-tuned riffs that remind of acts like Humanity’s Last Breath, evolving the sound to the point that it could no longer be “Grey Part II” simply because those Black Metal roots are barely visible while at the same time somehow still managing to be distinctly and unmistakably Too Much Said The Nature. In many ways “Red Part I” feels stripped back, less complex, with less nuance but at the same time still having the same searing heat and brutal intensity, especially when “First People” continues in the same blood curdling vein, climbing from the void with deranged intentions, a pair of almost false endings in quick succession in the middle allowing the churning violence to begin again… [7/10]
