The Black Map #226: Nvmeral from Oxford!
Each week we take a more in depth look at a band from the UK Metal Underground scene who are deserving of some attention in this feature we like to call The Black Map and after #226 weeks it continues to be one of the most successful of those we have created. This week we head from Cambridge and The Grey to their rowing city University rivals…
They maybe only two singles deep into their music careers but Chris Jones, Ricky Taylor, Dean Harris, Tim Lucas and Varun Arthur are already creating the kind of Post-Hardcore sounds that have caught our attention in Nvmeral. That’s because in debut single “Parry” they crossed the Great divide to incorporate Progressive atmospheres into something with a genuine Post-Hardcore intensity, giving us the perfect juxtaposition between heavy and melodic sounds. Eccletic, eccentric and as addictive as they come that one was followed by a cover of “Running Up That Hill“, a song from Kate Bush that has already received a make over from Placebo and had been recently brought back into the spotlight through the soundtrack of Netflix series Stranger Things. Currently working on new material, the quintet who only announced themselves to an unsuspecting World this summer have been helped by photographer Jason Goodall have certainly made an impression. We can’t wait for their live debut.
