Vs. Tuesday: Two Bands! One Song! Who Wins?! FIGHT! Cure.
It’s strange how often people don’t understand art at the time at which it’s unveiled but grow to love it decades later. In the case of “Pornography” from The Cure, an album which brought the band to the edge of self destruction with drug fueled recording sessions, despite not being received that well by critics, it has remained one of the bands most popular. An album now considered to be one of the cornerstones of the development of the Gothic Rock sound, it is an uncompromising, challenging and intense album like no other.
In the Blood Red Corner we have Angmodnes, a Funeral Doom Metal collaboration from Utrecht in the Netherlands. They’ve altered the lyrics of this one to reflect a misheard lyric so it now references Schopenhauer’s “The World as Will and Representation“, a book read as the song was heard while suffering from insomnia.
In the Icy Blue Corner we have The Fright, a band who hail from Leipzig Germany who have made their name over the past two decades in similar territory to Wednesday 13, blending Horror Punk with Gothic Rock and Heavy Metal in alchemy. Who Wins? You decide!
