The Black Map #229: A Titan, A Deity from Birmingham!
It’s funny how the English language evolves and things that have meant one thing for hundreds, if not thousands of years end up meaning another quite quickly with the evolution of technology. If you’ve woken up feeling like you’ve been broadsided by a freight train then chances are you might consider that infamous hangover remedy with the strangest of names: Hair of the Dog. We all know it means another drink in some vague attempt at making yourself feel better, rather than asprin, water, coffee and rest. But where did the phrase come from? The answer to that one is a method of treating a rabid dog bite by placing a hair from the dog that bit you on the wound. Which kind of makes sense in that you’re having another drink from the source of the sickness in an attempt at kill or cure…
…but we digress. What are we here to talk about? Erm… Oh A Titan, A Deity. A group of like minded musicians (which band aren’t comprised of like minded musicians?) hailing from Birmingham in the Midlands formed in 2016, they’ve been troubling our ear drums with a style of Progressive Metalcore known for its big riffs ever since. The quintet dropped their debut EP “Animate / Redefine” in 2018 before chalking up shows with everyone from InVisions and Arcaeon to Novelists and Landmvrks while also appearing at Tech-Fest and talking a couple of swings at Metal 2 The Masses. Working on a follow up to the EP they’ve been waterfall releasing singles since at a rate of knots, dropping six in total with their last two in “Io” and “Heirloom” fast approaching 63k of Spotify and YouTube streams combined. Not bad for five lads who have some free time an a love of riffs eh?
