NEWS: Insomnium welcome us to Hell!

On 24th February, Finnish Metal melancholists Insomnium will unveil their ninth full-length album “Anno 1696” via Century Media Records. Mixed by Jaime Gomez Arellano at Orgone Studios and mastered by Tony Lindgren at Fascination Street Studios, “Anno 1696” is a Welcome to the year of its title, an age of unrest, famine and witch hunts across Europe. Joined by Sakis Tolis of Rotting Christ fame, the second single and music video for ‘White Death‘ has surfaced…

Guitarist Markus Vanhala laughs: “Can’t deny it, Insomnium is a soundtrack to both the Finnish mental and physical landscape. We all are strongly feeling melancholic Finns.”

Bassist and vocalist Niilo Sevänen adds: “We simply had eleven great songs, and we thought that this material is too good to be just bonus tracks. They are part of the big story, so you can think of them as the director’s cut material that tells a little extra. For those who want to have more”

“The Torsåker witch trials were a horrible source of nightmarish inspiration,” Sevänen says of his ghastly muse. “All that talk about 70 women beheaded in this small Swedish parish? It’s real stuff from history! And as if that weren’t enough, there are also some very dark tales of cannibalism and child murder from the years of the great famine.”
