Throwback: “Catharsis” from Machine Head!

It doesn’t seem possible but as Machine Head once again bask in the glory of a very well received album in “Of Kingdom And Crown” it’s predecessor “Catharsis” has reached its fifth anniversary. An album hated by many which brought about the departure of guitarist Phil Demmel and drummer Dave McClain from the band it, like all the Machine Head albums, is not without its moments. Yes, “Beyond The Pale” is a a reminder of just how good Strapping Young Lad were and yes, “Bastards” sounds like a Dropkick Murphys cut. But songs like “Kaleidoscope” with its resonating lyric “This hole in my soul, Songs fill what religion won’t, No hope, I can’t cope, Music plays in kaleidoscope, And if I’m lost, I don’t want to be found, Haunted by sound” prove the point. So we’re raising a coffee cup to Robb Flynn and playing the title track…
