The Black Map #247: You Win Again Gravity from Windsor!
Approaching a decade together, Windsor natives You Win Again Gravity are a band approaching a sophomore album “Into The Dancing Blue” inspired by bands like Deftones and Oceansize. They credit producer Oz Craggs (Feed The Rhino, Mallory Knox, Neck Deep) at Hidden Track Studios in Folkestone with giving them a huge sound as first single “Curious Fake” demonstrates…
They say never judge a book by its cover and when it comes to witnessing You Win Again Gravity in the live arena they’d be right. A band that we stumbled across at the second incarnation of Radar Festival last summer with a big reputation but not having heard a note, they took to the stage looking slightly awkward. Unlike a lot of Metal bands who look like Metal Heads meeting all the traditional stereotypes of long hair, band t-shirts and tattoos, the Progressive Post-Hardcore quinet look a like a quiet bunch of average Joe’s with short hair and hoodies. However once the music starts to flow they win you over quickly with huge hooks and mercurial song writing with a flair for the unpredictable, making death defying leaps between dreamy melodies, meloncholic meanderings and forlorn atmospheres before reaching the turbulence of heavier movements fuelled by darker moods. Their transitions are slick, their sound effortless and intelligently littered with nuances and observations that culminate in creating something majestic. When listening to their recorded material, the band are caught in the space between a blink and a tear, able to create music that is both delicate and punchy with extremes that push out with complete freedom of expression. We can’t wait to sample the new album.
