Exclusive Interview: Terraborn talk re-animation with “Return Fire”!
It’s been a long hard road out of hell for Terraborn but having re-animated their corpses with shots of adrenaline and squeezed the bullets out of their wounds the riff lords have arrived in the trenches once more with sophomore EP “Return Fire“. A towering inferno of American Metalcore styled riffs, harsh vocals and nuanced melody the record evidences why they made the final of Metal To the Masses for the chance to play the New Blood stage of Bloodstock a few years back. So here’s an exclusive interview with them…
It’s been six long years since you released “Call To War” in 2017, so does the releases of “Return Fire” feel like a weight off of the collective shoulders? How have you found the reaction to the pre-release singles “Hell On Earth” and “Flames of the Fallout“? “A weight off of our shoulders is the perfect way to describe how we feel. Progress was being made at great pace between 2017 and 2019, we stopped to take a breather February 2020 planning to only be in the studio for a couple of months before returning to live shows. Then of course as everyone knows COVID happened, Lockdowns, no access to the studio to record, no band practices, no gigs, everything stopped. Then 1 year later in 2021 our former vocalist and good friend Rich left the band to go and live with family aboard. Another set back. Months of auditions for a new front man then took place, once we found the perfect fit (enter Luke), rewriting of lyrics and patterns and re-records of tracks had to happen. It certainly felt at any points during the process that the EP was never going to be finished and perhaps we’d never get to return. Luckily we managed to knuckle down and get it finished up to a standard we’re all happy with, and we finally returned to live shows 1st of December 23, to a packed venue. We’re all very relieved and excited to be back. The reaction to the first two singles and the accompanying lyric videos has been fantastic. We’ve had some awesome comments, and going into our first show back with a crowd knowing the lyrics to our new songs and screaming them back to us felt amazing”
You have a strong overarching concept; how hard have you found it to stick to task in telling the tales of war? “Luckily we’re all fans of B-stock horror, computer games, war movies and history in general. So we’ve found between the 5 of us there’s enough ideas floating about to keep writing material. We’ve got more lined up already for EP 3”
If we’re the product of our genes and our influences, who are your influences and what are in your jeans? “We’re all kids of the 90’s so there’s a lot of Slipknot, Pantera, and early 2000’s NWOAHM in our blood. But we love melody too, from Opeth and Iron Maiden to Killswitch Engage”
