NEWS: Echoes of the Extinct write a dystopian tale inspired by Life of Pi?

Inverse Records have shared the first song ever written by Finnish Metal band Echoes of the Extinct. Inspired by the Gothenburg sound in Melodic Death Metal the track is titled “Empathy” and its origins trace back to 2021, shortly before the bands formation. The story goes that guitarist Juuso Lehtonen shared the songs riffs with drummer Jarmo Jääskeläinen. Instantly inspired, Jarmo wrote the drum parts and within a few weeks, the song’s backbone was in place. However, “Empathy” wasn’t fully completed until 2024, when vocalist Tero Ollilainen and bassist Kalle Hautalampi joined the band and helped refine it.

Lyrically “Empathy” confronts the selfishness of modern humanity, delving into themes of emotional detachment, anxiety, and depression. The song urges listeners to reconnect with their inner voice before despair takes hold. With its intense instrumentation and melancholic lyrics, Empathy is a piece that crawls into your consciousness and heart.
