Review: “Desolation Of Existence” by Blinded By Hate
Formed in 2013 in Mexico City, Deathcore quartet Blinded By Hate released a self titled EP in 2025 and a debut full length album in “Apología de la Miseria” (or “Apology for Misery“) in 2019. After that however there was a slow down in proceedings, the band unveiling a pair of singles, one in 2021 and one in 2023 both of which now appear on new EP “Desolation Of Existence“, a record produced, mixed and mastered by Eric Vielma Marquez. No rhyme or reason has been given for the delay and no line up changes have taken place since their first burnt offering, the band still comprising drummer David Rivero, vocalist Alejandro Lazcano and guitarist duo Yair Gómez and Juan Manuel Hernández, however as we all know, life has a tendency to get in the way… until now that is…
As opening cut “Inmolación Perpetua” (or “Perpetual Immolation“) comes to life the comparisons to bands like Lorna Shore, Draconian Reign and Existentialist are there for all to witness. Rich, dark orchestrations provide the backdrop for chugging guitars and nasty shrill vocals as drummer Rivero demonstrates some seriously inhuman abilities behind the kit, the bands sound falling somewhere between Deathcore and Extreme Metal. A guest vocal appearance from BNG Martínez of Suicide Messiah fame drives the nails into the coffin before “Distopía de los Caídos” (or “Dystopia of the Fallen“) roars like a beast. Once again in the Mexican language of Spanish the vocals are delivered with venom and fury before an icy piano moment acts as a bridge into a passage of brutal breakdowns. Blast beats add a spice that’s nice as the band tear up the rule book in and subject us to a savage beating with just a hint of Cradle Of Filth decadence about it. The orchestrations are utterly spellbinding, a core component of the bands sound and integrated so well into these songs that it beggars belief. If you’re not suffering from a feverish bloodlust by the time “Inmundicia” (or “Filth“) hits the ear canals then you need to consult a psychologist to find out what’s wrong with your brain. The combination hellish brutalities and savage conjuring’s raising the hairs on the back of the neck like a classic horror movie, Lazcano capable of some bloodcurdling, throat shredding uncleans when he pushes himself.
The second guest appearance on the record is from Punch of Douchebagz and Craven and appears on the hostile force of nature that is “Desolación de la Existencia” (or “Desolation of Existence“). Vocal layering is used to great effect, death growled uncleans underpinned by the shriller ones, a couple of surprise two step moments followed by the vicious force of a Zombie bite to the neck as the guitars smash through the orchestrations with precision and power. The poise of the orchestrations is impressive, their contrast helping infuse dark melody into the gripping horror of “El Principio de Nada” (or “The Nothing Principle“), giving it an almost ethereal touch and making the mind wander into a scene of the birth of a demon in a chapel to the sound of a choir. That would create the perfect music video for this hellscape, the punch of the mid cut breakdown section as heavy as it gets. While stylistically you may have heard material like this elsewhere, here it’s done so well that it doesn’t actually matter. The wait is over. Hell is upon us [7.5/10]
