Track Review: “Nerve” by Tribe Of Ghosts
“Nerve is the inner-exploration of the pinnacle moment of redemption and revenge. There is a sense of release and acceptance of how the resentment towards this person is destroying you from the inside-out, but this person’s demise at your hands is all consuming beyond self preservation.” ~ Beccy Blaker, vocals
After exposing us to the toxic radiation leak of “Forever Falling Upwards” a couple of weeks back, Brighton Industrial Post-Metal collective Tribe Of Ghosts have returned with “Nerve“, a second advanced listen from their forthcoming new EP “Open Wounds“. If its predecessor was anything to go by then the Bloodstock 2023 survivors have found fresh inspiration easy to come by after the nightmares of a dystopian future that was last year’s debut album “City” and if it’s as captivating and enthralling as their live performances are then it’s going to be a stone cold winner.
Twisting and contorting to suit their mood, Tribe Of Ghosts have long been capable of acts of emotional violence and the deep seeded malice within the heart of “Nerve” is there for all to witness. Pushing their boundaries they build a sense of tension K-pop inspired vocal glitches that drift into “Zerospace” era Kidneythieves like Industrial soundscapes and rich melodies in aching beauty from clean vocalist Beccy Blaker. You can sense that something wicked this way comes and the shotgun pump before a deeply satisfying breakdown hits hard. The perfect antidote to a World full of poison, cathartic screams splatter the walls with blood as harsh vocalist Adam Sedgwick takes more of back seat. His moments are more nuanced, a delicate whisper here and roar there just to keep you on your toes. Tribe Of Ghosts live and breathe in the wastelands of a post apocalyptic future and like a patient mental who was sat rocking back and forth in a dark corner, they rise to strike back at their oppressors with murderous intent with this fresh moment of aggression. The balance of the elements that comprise their sound is found effortlessly, this song being a fine example of what is possible when you have total belief in your vision. It’s without compromise or fear of failure, designed from the ground up to work the mosh pit into a frenzy with the bombastic step up from the haunting melodic verse to the get punch of the chorus. The only issue with this is it leaves you with a bloodlust for more… [8.5/10]
