Playthrough: “Forlorn” from Ov Sulfur!
The so called “sophomore slump” has been skilfully avoided by American Blackened Deathcore quintet Ov Sulfur with their second album “Endless” arriving via Century Media Records. Propelled by the performances of vocalist Ricky Hoover, it finds the band pushing the boundaries of their Deathcore origins while embracing both Black and Melodic Death Metal as they broaden their horizons. Celebrating the arrival of the album, a one take vocal performance of “Forlorn” is now screaming.
Chase Wilson comments: “My goal for ‘Forlorn’ was a melodeath version of a waltz. This song has an elegant kind of swing to it while also being crushingly heavy. It’s about someone suffering from loneliness and worrying they’ll never find someone to share their life with. Delivering that message in this vocal one-take performance, even with the key change toward the end, was a special challenge to show off how Ricky and I have grown as singers.”
