5 Albums I Want To Be Buried With #25: Unburier!
After an incredible three years which saw them survive line up changes, deliver us to evil with 2024 EP “Nebulous” and turn stages to sawdust with the likes of Sanguisugabogg, Crypta and Party Cannon, not to mention appearances at both Bloodstock Open Air and Incineration Festivals, last month Unburier returned with EP “As Time Awaits“. The English Technical Death Thrash mercenaries who have spent time in Goatgor, Morbikon, Parasitic Entity, Bound in Fear and Pintglass to name but a few took some time out from their busy schedules to join us for our regular feature…
The premise is simple: “Back in ancient Egypt they believed that the items their Kings were buried with would travel with them into the afterlife and so part of the burial ritual would see the mummified bodies surrounded by chariots, gold and more. Fast forward to now. If there were five albums that you’d want buried in the coffin with you to take to the afterlife, what would you choose?”
1. Metallica – “And Justice For All“
Ben Champion (Guitars, Vocals): “This record changed everything for me. The riffs, the arrangements, all whilst maintaining timeless songwriting. Such an obnoxious mix but it’s so iconic and one of my favourite guitar tones. And it’s still in constant rotation after 10+ years of listening.“
2. The Zenith Passage – “Datalysium”
Blake Hibberd (Guitars, Vocals): “This has been my favourite record over the past few years. The mix of technicality, atmosphere and heavy sections is perfect. It’s tight and mechanical but still super memorable and catchy for how dense the music is.“
3. Cynic – “Traced In Air”
Stan Mitchell (Bass): “This album mellows out Cynic’s previously death metal sound, but simultaneously becomes more niche and less accessible for it. I find it to be, ironically, far more focused than their debut. Incredibly adventurous and just crazy on repeat listens.”
4. Genesis – “Selling England by the Pound”
Kim Hughes (Drums): “It’s an album that I can always go back to.”
5. Death – “Human“
Unburier: “We have picked this all together as it had such a big impact on our musical journeys. Ramping up their technicality whilst keeping it hooky and practically flawless performances across the board. This a band favourite for sure.“
