Now you’ve read the memo, it’s time to get to the main event.

The premise is simple: “Back in ancient Egypt they believed that the items their Kings were buried with would travel with them into the afterlife and so part of the burial ritual would see the mummified bodies surrounded by chariots, gold and more. Fast forward to now. If there were five albums that you’d want buried in the coffin with you to take to the afterlife, what would you choose?

For the second of edition of this new feature, we let Remnant loose and they made their choices as a band…

Kurtis: “The most inspirational album for me and one I would choose to be buried with has to be “The Fury Of Our Makers Hand” by DevilDriver22 years ago this album came out and it was one of the first albums that was the start of my journey into doing vocals, from the start of it with the long scream on the track “End of the Line” and being able to nail that after a few months, I felt accomplished but that was just the beginning! The music also got me through some times of hardship, especially with songs like “Sin and Sacrifice” and the title track, especially the line “What will you do?” A question with so many possibilities and outcomes!”

Leigh: “For me, the most inspirational album is without a doubt Iron Maiden‘s Live After Death…. Specifically cassette (Yes CASSETTE) 2.  At the ripe old age of 9 or 10, my next door neighbour handed me a mysterious looking cassette with instructions to “have a listen” and if I liked it, he would find the first tape for me.

I scuttled back to my bedroom and slid the tape into the waiting stereo. What happened next blew my mind and introduced me to the most magical music I had ever heard! The thundering Drums and Bass, the soaring twin lead Guitars and the simply sublime Vocals combined with the sheer energy of the band and fans smashing through my tinny speakers I fell deeply and irrevocably in love.

The happy accident of only having the second tape meant my introduction to Maiden was the epic “Hallowed Be Thy Name”. To this day (30 some odd years later) it remains my favourite song! It set in motion a journey that eventually (around 12 years ago!) carried me into Remnant and gave me an amazing musical family…. Can’t ask more than that! Bury me with it!”

Andy:  “Trivium Ascendency (2005): This will forever be one of my favourite albums of all time. Way back to a more innocent time in my life when I was still young and impressionable I remember buying what was the latest copy of Metal Hammer magazine which included a free promo DVD. On the disc in question was the music video for the track Like Light To Flies and it just blew me away. Not long after I would get my hands on the full Ascendency album and listen on repeat (much to the dismay of my neighbours) From tracks like Rain to phat bangers like Pull Harder, the massive hooks and melodies are all throughout and sprinkled with a solid mix of blinding lead work \m/”

Tori: Rage Against The Machine – Rage Against The Machine. Everyone has that one album, the one that grabs you by the balls and makes you pay attention – Rage Against the Machine is mine. I remember watching The Matrix as a teenage edgelord and hearing that opening bass riff of Wake Up and immediately going off to buy the album – the first one I spent my own money on! From the impassioned pleas in Zack De La Rocha’s hard hitting political lyrics, to the crazy groovy bass lines of Tim Commorford, this album was exactly what teenage me needed to hear and set the stage for what I’ve enjoyed in music my whole life, in all genres. Fuck You I Won’t Do What You Tell Me!”

Collective Favourite: Dream Theater Metropolis: Scenes From A Memory Pt2. We all agree this is one of the best albums of all time and one we would certainly want to be buried with. From the moment Overture 1928 kicks in with Rudess’ synths backed by Portnoy, Myung and Petrucci, you as the listener are pulled into an incredible soundscape that is equal parts beautiful as it is heavy. It really sets the mood for the rest of the album and as each track presses on it just continues to pull you further and further in. If you have never treated your ear holes to this absolute masterpiece make sure you find the time to do so asap!”

We’re proud confirm that Metal Noise dot Net is returning for a third consecutive year as the Media Partner for Summer Bash! Mercury’s Well will be hosting the seventh incarnation of their annual Hawaiian beach party themed event on 26th July 2025 at The Facebar in Reading.
